The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has officially released the academic calendar for the Rain Semester of the 2024/2025 session, outlining a tightly woven sequence of academic and ceremonial events for both students and staff. The announcement, personally endorsed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor R. O. Rom Kalilu, on behalf of the university’s Senate, marks the beginning of a new academic journey with renewed expectations.
According to the released schedule, students currently rounding off the Harmattan Semester will begin their semester break on Friday, March 28, 2025. After a two-week recess, all students are expected to resume for the Rain Semester on Sunday, April 13. Academic activities resume in full swing the following day, Monday, April 14, as course registration without penalties kicks off, with lectures also commencing on Tuesday, April 15. This swift transition reflects the university’s commitment to a seamless academic rhythm.
April is also packed with celebrations and intellectual engagements, as the convocation ceremonies will take centre stage beginning Thursday, April 17. The week-long convocation festivities include a press conference, a convocation play, a research fair, alumni engagements, and special religious services at both the LAUTECH Mosque and the Interdenominational Chapel. The crescendo of the celebrations arrives on Saturday, April 20, with the award of first degrees and academic prizes, followed by the conferment of postgraduate diplomas, higher degrees, and honorary titles the next day, Sunday, April 21.
Registration without penalty wraps up on Tuesday, April 22. Students who miss this window will have a brief opportunity to register with a penalty, from Wednesday, April 23 to Friday, April 25, after which the registration portal will be closed. The university has clearly communicated its zero-tolerance policy for late registration beyond this date, aiming to instill discipline and punctuality in the student body.
Mid-semester academic evaluations begin in mid-June, with Computer-Based Tests for Continuous Assessment scheduled to run from Saturday, June 28 to Monday, June 30. These assessments are critical in measuring academic progress and form a significant component of the final grading system for the semester. As the semester progresses, all lectures are scheduled to conclude by Friday, July 4. A designated lecture-free week follows, beginning Monday, July 7, to allow students time to revise and prepare for their final examinations. The Rain Semester exams will begin on Saturday, July 26 and run until Monday, July 28, testing the academic mettle of students across faculties and departments.
By early October, the university will welcome a new cohort of students for the 2025/2026 Harmattan Semester, with resumption fixed for Tuesday, October 6. This transition signals the official end of the 2024/2025 academic session, allowing continuing students a brief end-of-session break before resuming yet another round of academic pursuits.
