Kwara State University’s Institutional Repository (KWASU IR) has been officially listed on the African Digital Research Repositories, marking a notable addition to the university’s academic and digital infrastructure.
The Institutional Repository serves as a centralized online platform for preserving, managing, and providing access to the university’s scholarly publications and research materials. It supports the dissemination of academic content generated within the university across various disciplines and fields.
University Librarian, Professor Abdulsalam Abiodun Salman, confirmed the listing and described it as a development that enhances the institution’s academic visibility and contributes to improving its local and global rankings. He explained that the repository would increase access to research output while fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The listing followed a comprehensive content development and review process, which ensured the repository met the required standards for inclusion on the African Digital Research Repositories platform. The content curation and submission protocols were established to maintain the academic quality and credibility of the repository.
Professor Salman highlighted the role of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, in the realization of the project. He noted that the Vice-Chancellor’s support and strategic direction were instrumental in the successful development and deployment of the Institutional Repository.
The KWASU IR is expected to improve the research climate at the institution by providing a structured platform for publishing theses, dissertations, journal articles, and other scholarly works produced by the university’s researchers and students.
Through the repository, faculty members and postgraduate students can store, retrieve, and share their work in alignment with open-access principles. This allows for greater academic exposure and citation potential of research conducted at the university.
The listing places KWASU among the growing number of African universities with recognized digital repositories and strengthens its capacity for scholarly engagement at regional and international levels.
