Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Nigeria’s premier higher institution of technology, has taken another bold step in academic innovation and vocational expansion. The institution announced on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, that it has received full approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to commence eight new Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in the 2024/2025 academic session.
“This is a significant milestone in our effort to broaden access to technical and professional education,” said Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, YABATECH’s Deputy Registrar (Academics). “We are thrilled to offer new HND programmes that align with global industry needs and national development goals.” The approved programmes include HND in Marine Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, and Welding and Fabrication Engineering.
In addition to expanding its engineering offerings, YABATECH has also received the green light to offer HND in Strategic Communication and Media Studies, Public Administration, and Polymer Technology. Dr. Abdul added, “These programmes are designed to equip students with hands-on skills, creativity, and strategic thinking that meet contemporary industry standards.”
The remaining two newly approved HND courses reflect the institution’s growing commitment to agriculture and environmental sustainability: Agribusiness Management and Pest Management Technology. According to Dr. Abdul, “We are diversifying our academic portfolio to support the agricultural value chain and address national food security challenges.”
Registration for the newly introduced programmes is now officially open. “The application portal opens on May 13, 2025, and will close on May 20, 2025,” confirmed Mrs. Foluke Adenuga, YABATECH’s Admissions Officer. “We urge prospective students to visit our official website and apply early. Late applications will not be entertained.”
The college management expressed optimism that these new HND programmes will attract not only local applicants but also candidates from across West Africa. “YABATECH is a brand trusted for excellence,” said the Rector, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe. “These new programmes will further cement our reputation as a center of innovation, enterprise, and practical knowledge.”
As the institution opens doors to more disciplines, current and prospective students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. “The new HND courses will give our students a competitive edge in the job market,” said Mrs. Adenuga. “We’re not just producing graduates—we’re producing skilled professionals ready to transform industries.”
With the NBTE approval and preparations in full swing, YABATECH is once again proving its relevance and responsiveness to modern-day educational demands. As Engr. Omokungbe put it, “At YABATECH, we don’t just teach. We innovate, we empower, and we build the future.”
