Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the education sector, applauding Osun State University (UNIOSUN) for its rising profile and academic advancement. The Governor gave this assurance during the institution’s first annual university lecture held in Osogbo, themed “Interrogating the Funding of Education: Global versus Nigerian Perspectives.”
Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke commended the university’s Senate for organizing what he described as a highly impactful public lecture. “I want to commend the Senate of the University for the great work you have been doing on behalf of public lectures,” he stated.
He expressed satisfaction with the content and calibre of the speakers featured at the event. “With the knowledge we have all gained from this lecture, I am convinced that this lecture is never a waste of time and resources,” he said. “I am particularly happy to note the details of this lecture, and the calibre of resource persons you have invited.”
The Governor noted that discussions from the lecture were relevant not only to the university community but to all levels of government. “I am sure our guests would have communicated valuable insights to the government at all levels,” he added.
Governor Adeleke reserved special praise for the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Clement Odunayo Adebooye, describing him as a beacon of professional leadership. “I also very specially commend the professional leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clement Odunayo Adebooye,” he said. “He is a blessing to the University and our society as a whole.”
Reflecting on the state’s educational performance, Governor Adeleke cited improved rankings as evidence of positive transformation. “Osun State is experiencing rapid improvement in our educational achievements,” he said. “The National Assembly ranking of Osun has risen to 7th. We were 32nd in 2022. Our target is to be ranked number one in the future.”
Emphasizing the value of education, Adeleke echoed a famous saying: “A mind is a terrible thing to waste. In terms of education, my mind is a terrible thing to waste,” he remarked, reinforcing his administration’s prioritization of human capital development.
He also appreciated the keynote speaker, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, for accepting the invitation to deliver the lecture. “Let me once again thank the Speaker, CFR, for honouring the University and Osun State to deliver this lecture,” he said.
Governor Adeleke expressed pride in Osun State University’s achievements and noted its growing national recognition. “You are the first in the country to say you are doing very well. You are doing wonderful,” he declared.
In closing, Governor Adeleke thanked the university community for hosting the lecture and reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the institution. “Thank you to the Government of Osun State and Osun State University,” he said. “God bless you all. God bless Osun State University.”
