The Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI), Osun State, has released its updated admission guidelines and departmental cutoff marks for the 2025 academic session, solidifying its status as a growing hub for health and medical sciences in Nigeria.
The university, which offers a broad range of undergraduate programmes across three major faculties—Allied Health Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, and Clinical Sciences—has earned recognition for its focus on professional training in high-demand medical fields.
Among the standout courses are Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy, Pharmacology, and Information Technology & Health Informatics. Others include Audiology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Prosthetics and Orthotics. Each programme is designed to meet national health needs and global academic standards.
According to the institution’s admission office, the minimum UTME score to qualify for FUHSI’s Post-UTME is 180. However, course-specific requirements are higher for competitive programmes. Medicine and Surgery requires 220, Nursing Science 210, while Medical Laboratory Science and Physiotherapy both require 200. Other programmes maintain the base cutoff of 180.
Departmental merit-based cutoff marks released by the university further reflect varying levels of competition. For example, Medicine and Surgery had a merit threshold of 74.94%, Nursing Science stood at 70.38%, and Doctor of Physiotherapy at 65.25%. Other programmes like Biochemistry and Microbiology had lower cutoff points at 51.19% and 53.25%, respectively.
In line with federal guidelines, FUHSI also applies a catchment area policy which provides preferential cutoff marks for applicants from specific southwestern states, including Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, and Lagos. This policy is aimed at promoting regional inclusion and equity in federal university admissions.
Last year, FUHSI conducted a Post-UTME screening—not a written examination—between August 12 and 31, 2024. Candidates were required to meet minimum UTME scores for their chosen programmes and submit O’Level results. Applicants to high-demand courses like MBBS and Nursing were required to have five credits in one sitting.
The Post-UTME screening form was sold for ₦2,000 and was accessed via the university’s admissions portal. The screening involved online document submission, payment through the Remita platform, and verification of academic credentials, including birth certificates and UTME results.
FUHSI continues to build on its vision as Nigeria’s pioneer university dedicated solely to health sciences. With competitive admissions, specialized programmes, and a growing infrastructure base, the university is fast becoming a preferred destination for students aspiring to careers in the health and medical sectors.
