Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, has achieved full accreditation status for six of its academic programmes from the National Universities Commission (NUC), a major milestone in its commitment to academic excellence and institutional growth.
The newly accredited programmes are Microbiology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Accounting, Business Administration, and Political Science. These courses underwent rigorous evaluation by NUC teams earlier this year, with assessments focusing on staffing, curriculum content, facilities, and teaching quality.
In a statement made available to The Nigeria Education News, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Abiodun Musa Aibinu, described the development as a reflection of the institution’s unwavering dedication to delivering quality education and equipping students with future-ready skills.
“This accreditation is not just an administrative success but a testament to the hard work of our faculty, the commitment of our management, and the trust of our stakeholders. We remain focused on building a knowledge-driven institution that responds to national and global development needs,” Professor Aibinu said.
The NUC’s full accreditation, which typically remains valid for five years, enables the university to admit more students into the respective departments, engage in more collaborative research, and receive enhanced recognition among Nigerian higher institutions.
Established in 2015 by the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Summit University has made steady progress in academic development, ranking among emerging private universities offering competitive programmes in the sciences, social sciences, and management disciplines.
Students and parents welcomed the news with enthusiasm, describing it as a boost to the university’s credibility. “I’m proud to be studying Computer Science at Summit. The new accreditation confirms that we’re receiving education that meets national standards,” said Olamide Lawal, a 300-level undergraduate.
The university’s Registrar, Mr. Mustapha Abayomi Kadiri , emphasized that the institution is actively expanding its academic offerings. “This is part of our wider vision to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s human capital development. We are working towards more programme accreditations and infrastructural expansion in the coming years.”
The National Universities Commission, the apex regulatory body for university education in Nigeria, conducts accreditation exercises periodically to ensure compliance with academic benchmarks and to safeguard the quality of higher education.
With this recent accreditation, Summit University, Offa strengthens its status as one of the rising private institutions contributing to Nigeria’s educational landscape through quality teaching, research, and community engagement.
