The Students Union Election is currently underway at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), with various faculties experiencing different developments. The election process is being closely monitored, and several incidents have been reported across different faculties.
In the Faculty of Science, voting is ongoing, with electoral officers declaring that voting will end by 7:16 PM. Meanwhile, in the Faculty of Law, security officials have chased non-agents spotted among agents, ensuring that only authorized personnel are present during the election process.
The Faculty of Agriculture witnessed commotion when one person was found with five ballot papers, raising concerns about the integrity of the election process. Additionally, allegations have been made that a student from the Faculty of Agriculture voted with the consent of electoral officers in the Faculty of Arts.
In the Faculty of Technology, the electoral commissioner and agents have agreed to verify the number of ballot papers used and unused after the election. This decision was made to ensure transparency and accuracy in the counting process. The electoral commissioner also confirmed that they have been instructed to stop all elections by 8 PM.
However, irregularities have been reported in some faculties. In the Faculty of Education, several persons have been seen voting twice, which could potentially impact the outcome of the election. Similarly, in the Faculty of Science, several voters were seen voting twice without interruption.
The Faculty of Social Sciences is another faculty where developments have been reported. More voters trooped in as the election ended in a few minutes, while in another instance, the voting process was halted due to an argument between agents and the electoral commissioner over the voting end time.
In the Faculty of Dentistry, an argument ensued between the Faculty President, agents, and electoral commissioner over the voting end time. The Faculty President insisted that the voting process should be extended, while the agents and electoral commissioners argued otherwise.
The Faculty of Pharmacy has announced that voting will end by 7 PM, with counting of votes beginning by 8 PM according to the order gotten. In the Faculty of EDM, the electoral officer suggested extending the voting process, while some agents complained about part one students voting.
As the election continues, the timeline for voting and counting of votes varies across faculties. While some faculties are expected to conclude voting by 6 PM, others will end by 7 PM. Counting of votes is scheduled to begin by 8 PM in some faculties.
