The President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Uyi Akpata, has announced full university scholarships for members of Nigeria’s U-19 female cricket team following their qualification for the 2027 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
The Junior Female Yellow Greens secured their place at the global tournament after an impressive campaign at the African qualifiers in Tanzania, where they defeated Zimbabwe by four runs in the final to claim Africa’s qualification ticket.
The scholarship announcement was made during a reception organised by the Nigeria Cricket Federation to celebrate the young players and their achievement.
Akpata said the federation was committed to ensuring that the players continued their educational development alongside their sporting careers, announcing that every member of the team would receive full scholarship support through university education.
The intervention represents a significant step in strengthening the relationship between sports and education, particularly for young female athletes who often face challenges in combining academic pursuits with professional sporting development.
The NCF President stressed that the commitment was designed to ensure that the players do not have to choose between pursuing their education and developing their sporting talents.
