The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and prosecution of suspects linked to recent armed robbery attacks targeting students of Kwara State University (KWASU) residing in off-campus hostels in Malete community.
Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo made this known during a press briefing on Friday, July 11, 2025, where he highlighted the command’s ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activity across the state.
According to CP Ojo, a key suspect, Adamu Nuhu, was apprehended during a joint security patrol in Malete. He was reportedly found in possession of several digital gadgets and accessories suspected to have been stolen from students during the recent spate of robberies.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of a three-man gang that carried out coordinated night-time attacks on three student hostels in Malete. Armed with cutlasses, the group allegedly used force to rob approximately 15 students of mobile phones and other valuables.
The Commissioner further disclosed that intelligence gathered during the investigation led to the arrest of two additional suspects Dauda Amuda and Dare Alabi both residents of Ilorin. Police are currently probing their possible roles as collaborators or receivers of the stolen items.
“All the arrested suspects have been formally charged and remanded in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two remaining accomplices still at large,” CP Ojo stated.
He warned criminal elements to steer clear of Kwara State, adding that the command will continue its intelligence-driven and strategic operations to ensure the safety and security of residents, particularly students in vulnerable communities.
The arrest follows heightened concern over security in Malete, where students recently staged protests over repeated robberies and assaults in their hostels. The police have since increased patrols and visibility in the area in response to the growing unrest.
