The World Bank has begun the upgrade of 490 public secondary schools across the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State under its Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project.
The initiative was formally flagged off in Lafia by Governor Abdullahi Sule, who revealed that the project commenced following the state government’s payment of a N150 million counterpart fund.
Governor Sule described the AGILE project as a strategic intervention aimed at addressing key challenges affecting girls’ education in the state—particularly in the areas of access, retention, and quality of learning at the secondary school level.
He commended the Federal Ministry of Education for selecting Nasarawa as a beneficiary of the School Improvement Grant and reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the World Bank-backed programme to ensure its success.
The governor also urged School-Based Management Committees and other stakeholders to deploy available resources transparently and in strict accordance with approved work plans. He stressed the need for accountability and judicious use of funds throughout the implementation process.
