The Katsina State Government has revoked the operational licences of all private and community schools across the 34 local government areas of the state.
The revocation, approved by the State Executive Council, took effect from August 13, 2025.
In a statement yesterday, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Sani Danjuma Suleiman, said all affected schools must reapply for operational licences under a revised regulatory framework.
He said the move was part of ongoing reforms to enhance oversight, ensure compliance with educational standards, and streamline school operations across the state.
“All existing licences for private and community schools have been terminated. Affected schools are to submit fresh applications for registration based on their categorisation,” the statement read.
The government also announced a review of fees for application, registration, annual renewal, and school upgrades. However, it warned that no school should increase tuition or other charges without prior approval from the ministry.
“All payments must be made into the Katsina State Single Treasury Account—Account No. 0008978642, KSBIR IGR COLLECTION, Jaiz Bank Plc,” the statement added.
The ministry directed all schools to complete the payment and re-registration process through the Department of Private and Community Schools on or before September 30, 2025.
It, however, clarified that affected schools may continue normal operations while the registration process is ongoing.
The directive is expected to tighten regulation of the private education sector and ensure minimum standards are upheld across all non-public schools in the state.
