The first batch of 50 scholars sponsored by the Distinguished Senator Mohammed Sani Musa International Undergraduate Scholarship has departed for India to commence their tertiary education. The students, drawn from the nine Local Government Areas of Niger East Senatorial District, are part of a landmark initiative aimed at fostering educational development and human capital in the state.
The departure of the India-bound students is scheduled for Monday, August 25th, and Tuesday, August 26th, 2025. The program has been widely commended as a significant investment in the future of the beneficiaries, their families, and Niger State at large.
Speaking at the send-off, Musa represented by his wife, Hajia Saadatu Sani Musa said the programme was conceived to bridge educational gaps and produce globally competitive professionals.
“This is not just about sending young people abroad; it is about preparing an army of thinkers, builders, and innovators who will return with the skills to transform Niger East and Nigeria,” she said.
In a related development, the secretariat of the scholarship scheme has announced the rescheduling of the aptitude test for applicants seeking to study in China. The Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the China programme will now take place on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025.
According to an official notice, the adjustment was necessary to accommodate the logistics surrounding the departure of the first batch of students to India.
The notice also revealed that a total of 849 valid applications were received for the China scholarship following a thorough review that saw the removal of 78 duplicate entries. The applications span across all nine LGAs in the senatorial district, with Chanchaga (191), Rafi (160), and Paikoro (105) having the highest number of applicants.
Applicants for the China programme are advised to keep their phone lines active for SMS notifications and invitations for the rescheduled CBT. Shortlisting is based on meeting all eligibility requirements, uploading required supporting documents, and having verifiable claims.
The dual-destination scholarship programme underscores a major educational drive by the Senator, with the India cohort marking the successful take-off of the initiative and the upcoming China selection process signaling its expansion.
