Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the appointment of Professor Sani Ahmad Yauta as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Gombe State University (GSU).
The appointment follows the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council and was conveyed by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Muhammad Shettima Gadam.
A statement by the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said the new Vice Chancellor is expected to bring renewed leadership to the university as it advances its mandate of academic excellence, research, and infrastructure development.
Yauta, a seasoned academic and administrator, holds a PhD in Higher Education Management and Finance from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He also holds an M.Ed. in Educational Administration and Planning from the University of Maiduguri, and a BSc (Ed) in Education Economics from the University of Abuja.
Governor Yahaya expressed confidence in Yauta’s capacity to consolidate the gains of his predecessors and drive innovation across the institution.
In a related development, the Governor has also approved the appointment of principal officers for the newly established College of Education and Legal Studies (COELS), Nafada, in acting capacities.
Those appointed are: Dr. Dauda Mohammed as Acting Provost, Aishatu Mahmud Aliyu as Acting Registrar, and Ahijo Usman Mohammed as Acting Bursar.
According to the statement, the appointments are in line with Section 20, Subsection 2 of the COELS Law, 2021, which empowers the Governor to make such designations.
Governor Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the leadership of tertiary institutions in the state and ensuring effective academic and administrative operations.
