The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed N59 billion to more than 600,000 students in public tertiary institutions across the country, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) said yesterday.
NOA Director-General Lanre Issa-Onilu disclosed this at a news conference in Kano, where he also unveiled five nationwide campaigns aimed at deepening public awareness of government policies and national values.
Issa-Onilu, represented by NOA Director of Legal Services Williams Dogo, said the campaigns will focus on security consciousness, disaster preparedness, national identity and the implementation of key government directives.
He explained that the sensitisation drive, themed Nationwide Sensitisation on Five Thematic Areas, seeks to improve citizens’ understanding of critical government programmes, including the education loan scheme.
On the NELFUND initiative, he noted that the loan facility is open to all qualified Nigerians enrolled in public tertiary institutions.
Issa-Onilu also revealed that the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, in collaboration with partners, will support 150,000 young Nigerians nationwide with a funding package worth N110 billion.
The NOA boss further highlighted the presidential directive on flood mitigation, which provides N3 billion for each state in 2024 to clear drainage systems and relocate communities vulnerable to flooding.
