The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) today announced the signing of a significant Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with DLN, a strategic move set to transform the landscape of basic education in the nation.
The landmark project will facilitate the distribution of 47 million laptops and tablets to learners and teachers across pre-primary, primary, and junior secondary schools. A core component of the initiative is that the devices will be provided at zero cost to the Federal and State Governments, removing significant financial barriers to digital literacy.
In addition to the hardware, the comprehensive program includes provisions for free data access, enabling users to connect with AI-assisted learning content. To ensure the effective integration of this technology into the curriculum, the partnership will also roll out extensive teacher training programs in collaboration with the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI).
Further bolstering the project’s economic and developmental impact, regional hubs will be established for the assembly and distribution of the devices. This is anticipated to create numerous jobs and cultivate local expertise in technology manufacturing and logistics.
Officials stated that the partnership is in direct alignment with the Renewed HOPE Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as well as the National Policy on Education and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“This partnership is a testament to our collective commitment with the Presidency, the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, and our partners to bridge the digital divide, improve access, and raise the quality of basic education for every Nigerian child, no matter their location or background,” a UBEC representative commented.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed today marks another milestone for UBEC in its ongoing mission to fulfill its mandate of providing quality education for all Nigerian children.
