Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC, Oyo South) has commissioned a high-capacity solar energy project at the Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC), Igangan, in a bold move to enhance technical education and promote sustainable energy solutions.
The project, executed by Casbern Global Services Limited, now provides uninterrupted electricity to classrooms, laboratories, workshops and ICT centres, significantly improving the academic environment and promoting innovation across the institution.
In a statement issued by his media office, Senator Alli described the intervention as part of his ongoing commitment to bridging educational gaps through technology and renewable energy.
“For years, students and teachers at FSTC Igangan struggled with unstable electricity,” he said. “With this solar energy project, learning will be uninterrupted, innovation will thrive and our students will be better prepared for a knowledge-driven economy.”
The Asigangan of Igangan, Oba Rafiu Ariwoola, commended the senator’s gesture, describing it as laudable and a blessing to both the school and the community. He praised Senator Alli as a promise keeper and noted that the project, executed in his honour, would be remembered as a legacy initiative.
“The entire Igangan community, including parents and stakeholders, will formally express their gratitude to the senator,” the monarch added.
Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Mr Ademola Adegoke, also praised Senator Alli for his swift response and dedication. He recalled that three weeks ago, the school reached out to the senator, who immediately linked them with the contractor. The project, he said, was completed within one week.
“This is the most impactful support we have ever received from any elected representative,” Adegoke said. “It is a major milestone for the school and the entire community. May God continue to bless him.”
Principal of FSTC Igangan, Mr Kehinde Onatayo, described the intervention as transformative. He said the school had long suffered from erratic power supply, which had hindered effective teaching in science and technical subjects.
“With stable electricity now available, we can fully utilise our laboratories, workshops and ICT facilities,” he said. “This will greatly enhance the quality and delivery of science and technology education.”
Senator Alli reaffirmed his commitment to people-focused, technology-driven development, stressing the importance of renewable energy in promoting youth empowerment, self-reliance and sustainable growth.
“Functional education powered by clean energy is critical to national development,” he said. “Embracing renewable solutions not only cuts costs and protects the environment but also fosters innovation among young people.”
The senator pledged to continue implementing initiatives that directly improve lives and uplift communities across Oyo South.
