The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Professor Adamu Ahmed, was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the International College of Dentists (ICD) on Monday, September 22, 2025.
The award was conferred in recognition of the university’s significant support for the growth of its Faculty of Dentistry and Professor Ahmed’s personal dedication to advancing dental education in Nigeria.
The formal presentation was a major highlight of the 50th-anniversary celebrations of the University of Ibadan’s Dental School, held at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. Dr. Ian Doyle, the global President of the International College of Dentists, presented the award to the Vice-Chancellor before an audience of distinguished academics and healthcare professionals.
The fellowship acknowledges ABU’s role in strengthening dental studies and Professor Ahmed’s commitment to improving national healthcare standards through quality education. The event underscored the global importance and continued growth of dental education.
Professor Ahmed was accompanied by a delegation from ABU, including the Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, Professor M. S. Shehu; the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Professor Sunday Olusegun Ajike; and the Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sani Ibrahim Kaita.
