The Lagos State Government has resumed the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) after suspending Wednesday’s papers across the state due to the Oro Festival observed in parts of Lagos.
The examination resumed on Thursday in all designated centres, following the one-day adjustment announced by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through the Lagos State Examinations Board.
Although the Oro Festival is traditionally observed in parts of the Ikorodu Division, the state government postponed all BECE papers scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, as a precautionary measure to safeguard candidates, examination officials and other stakeholders participating in the statewide examination.
The affected papers have been rescheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2026, while every other paper in the examination timetable will continue on its originally scheduled date.
The decision followed consultations with relevant stakeholders after the 2026 BECE commenced successfully on Monday, June 29, with candidates writing their first papers across public and private junior secondary schools in Lagos.
The Lagos State Examinations Board advised candidates to obtain the revised timetable through their respective schools and prepare adequately for the rescheduled examinations.
The Board also appealed to parents, guardians, school administrators and candidates for understanding, assuring them that the adjustment was necessary to ensure the safety of everyone involved and to preserve the orderly conduct of the examination.
It reaffirmed its commitment to conducting credible, transparent and hitch-free examinations in line with the state’s commitment to maintaining high educational standards.
