The Provost of the College of Education, Ankpa, Kogi State, Dr Paul Femi Fashagba, has reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for cultism and other social vices, warning that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
Dr Fashagba issued the warning in Lokoja shortly after receiving an Award of Excellence from the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) during its 2025 Press Week.
He used the platform to commend Governor Usman Ododo for his administration’s commitment to revitalising the education sector, particularly in enhancing the status and standard of the college.
According to him, the state government is considering harmonising the College of Education, Technical, and the State College of Education, Ankpa, as part of broader reforms aimed at improving efficiency and academic outcomes.
Dr Fashagba disclosed that the college has written to the Kogi State House of Assembly through the member representing Ankpa I Constituency, Hon Akus Lawal, to seek a re-enactment of the law establishing colleges of education in the state. He explained that this legislative amendment would provide the legal framework for the institution to run degree programmes alongside the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).
“We have also briefed the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mr Wemi Jones, on the need to update the law to allow our institutions to align with national standards and expand their academic offerings,” he said.
Highlighting some of his administration’s achievements, the provost noted the eradication of cult activities on campus, improved staff relations, installation of motorised boreholes, and the provision of uninterrupted electricity supply.
He also listed the rehabilitation of key operational vehicles, including water tankers serving the community, and the establishment of what he described as the best Skills Acquisition Centre in the region, where students and local artisans receive vocational training.
Dr Fashagba reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining academic excellence, institutional development and a safe learning environment.
