The newly elected executives of the Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU) paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, and the University Management on Monday, 29th September 2025, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, 6th Floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos. The visit marked the first official engagement between the new student leaders and the university authorities following the recently concluded student elections.
Leading the delegation was the Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs Division, Dr. Fatai Abiodun-Abatan, who introduced the new LASUSU leaders and explained that the purpose of the visit was to formally present them to the university management. He emphasized that the visit aimed to strengthen the relationship between the administration and the Students’ Union, ensuring continuous dialogue and mutual collaboration in advancing the interests of the student body.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, warmly welcomed the new student leaders and congratulated them on their victory at the polls. She described their emergence as a product of democracy and responsibility, urging them to view their new roles as opportunities to serve rather than to rule. She also reminded them that leadership at LASU comes with high expectations and a duty to uphold the university’s core values of excellence, integrity, and service.

Professor Olatunji-Bello further charged the LASUSU executives to demonstrate integrity, accountability, and transparency in all their dealings. According to her, the university administration remains committed to supporting the Union in its quest to improve students’ welfare and maintain peace on campus. She reiterated her administration’s open-door policy, assuring the students that management would continue to prioritize dialogue and inclusivity in addressing student-related issues.
The Vice-Chancellor also invited other members of the University Management to offer words of advice to the newly elected Union leaders. Members of management, in their individual remarks, encouraged the executives to embrace constructive engagement and ensure that all requests and complaints from the student body are presented with civility and a spirit of partnership. They reminded the leaders that student-government relations thrive on mutual respect, responsibility, and adherence to university policies.
Speaking on behalf of the Students’ Union, the President-elect, Comrade Adebayo Korede Peter, expressed profound appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the management team for their continued support and commitment to students’ welfare. He pledged that the new LASUSU administration would maintain a harmonious working relationship with the university management, ensuring that all student interests are pursued responsibly and within the framework of university regulations.
Also speaking, the Speaker-elect of the LASUSU Parliament, Rt. Hon. Ogunbiyi Akorede Joshua, echoed the President’s sentiments, emphasizing that the new leadership would focus on inclusivity, innovation, and transparency. He commended the university’s leadership for sustaining an enabling environment where student voices can be heard and where leadership is nurtured through democratic processes.
The interactive session allowed the LASUSU executives to present several key issues and suggestions aimed at enhancing students’ academic and social experiences at LASU. These included concerns about campus transportation, hostel management, improved ICT services, and expanded opportunities for student entrepreneurship and skill development. The Vice-Chancellor assured them that management would review their recommendations and integrate feasible ones into the university’s development agenda.
The event had in attendance top members of the university management, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Professors Oseni Afisi (Academics) and Adenike Omotunde Boyo (Administration); the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu; the Bursar, Mr. Said Babatunde Olayinka (represented by Deputy Bursar, Mr. Kunle Odunlami); and the University Librarian, Dr. Omawumi Makinde. Others present included senior officials such as Dr. Lateef Shekoni, Dr. Lateef Salami, and Mr. Abdulhameed Lawal from the Students’ Affairs Division.
The meeting concluded on an uplifting note with a vote of thanks delivered by the LASUSU Public Relations Officer-elect, Comrade Kolade Abdulmalik Akano. Group photographs were taken to commemorate the occasion, symbolizing a renewed partnership between the university management and the Students’ Union. The atmosphere reflected unity of purpose, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to a greater and more progressive Lagos State University.
