Anambra State has once again reaffirmed its leadership in Nigeria’s education sector, winning nine awards at the 2025 President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards held at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
The state’s Woliwo Primary School II, Onitsha, emerged as the overall best school in Nigeria, clinching the star prize of a 16-seater bus, a feat that further underscores Anambra’s consistent record of excellence in education.
Pinkberry International School, Odume Obosi, was named first runner-up for Best Approved Private Primary School, while Emmanuel Ndibe of St. Theresa’s Secondary School, Enugwu Ukwu, took the first runner-up position for Best Approved Private Senior Secondary School Teacher. Similarly, Nkechi Ikedi of Pinkberry International School, Odume Obosi, won first runner-up for Best Approved Private Primary School Teacher.
In the public school category, Government Secondary School, Ojoto, secured the first runner-up award for Best Public Junior Secondary School. Cosmas Nwata of Igbariam Farm Settlement Primary School also emerged first runner-up for Best Public Primary School Teacher.
Other Anambra educators recognized include Amaka Ubaka of Prince Memorial Secondary School, Onitsha (first runner-up, Best Public Senior Secondary School Administrator); Okafor Ngozi of Community High School, Nkwelle Ezunaka (first runner-up, Best Public Junior Secondary School Administrator); and Edozieobi Nnenna of Model Primary School, Akabor Ojoto (first runner-up, Best Public Primary School Administrator).
Each awardee received a laptop alongside their prizes.
Presenting the awards, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, lauded Anambra State for its sustained commitment to excellence and innovation in education.
Reacting to the achievement, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu attributed the success to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s strategic investments in education.
She highlighted the administration’s recruitment of qualified teachers, introduction of free education, and establishment of smart schools as policies that have reinforced the state’s educational foundation.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh congratulated the winners and expressed confidence that Anambra would continue to reach new heights under Governor Soludo’s leadership.
In their remarks, Mrs. Francisca Odiegwu of Woliwo Primary School II and Mrs. Royaline Amarachi Ikebuaso of Pinkberry International School commended the state government for revitalizing education and pledged to sustain the delivery of quality, globally competitive learning for Anambra pupils.
