The Management of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, has suspended its Students’ Union Government (SUG) indefinitely over alleged misconduct during the recently concluded 2025 Students’ Week celebration.
The decision was contained in a statement signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Paul Bako, following an emergency management meeting held on Monday, October 13, to review the incidents that occurred during the week-long event.
According to the statement, the university described the activities as “regrettable events” that undermined its values and standards. It attributed the breakdown of order to poor coordination and supervision by the SUG leadership, prompting the decision to dissolve the union pending further review.
The management also announced plans to establish a new framework aimed at promoting inclusiveness, accountability, and discipline among future student leaders.
“Individuals found to have acted in ways that misrepresented the university’s core values will face disciplinary action in accordance with existing regulations,” the statement read.
The university further disclosed that some students whose actions had criminal implications had already been apprehended and would be handed over to law enforcement agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.
Reaffirming its commitment to academic and moral excellence, the management assured the university community that it remained dedicated to maintaining a safe and disciplined environment for learning.
