The Registry Department of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has held its maiden Registry Roundtable aimed at improving staff performance, punctuality, and collaboration among administrative officers of the institution.
The event, themed “On Time, On Track: Enhancing Staff Punctuality and Attendance,” was held at the Registrar’s Conference Room and brought together senior registry officials, including Deputy Registrars, Principal Assistant Registrars, and other senior administrative staff.
The meeting focused on identifying challenges related to punctuality and attendance while proposing practical solutions to improve efficiency within the university system. It was moderated by Malam Ibrahim Bawa Kaura, a Senior Deputy Registrar, with former University Registrar, Malam U. U. Bunza, serving as lead discussant.
In his address, the University Registrar, Malam Amadu Shehu, emphasized the importance of punctuality and regular attendance in maintaining a productive academic environment. He noted that punctuality is not merely about being present but demonstrating commitment to the University’s mission.
“As university administrators, we set the tone for the entire institution. It is imperative that we lead by example,” Shehu stated, urging staff to consistently stay on track with their responsibilities.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Muhammad Maishanu, described the roundtable as a crucial step toward institutionalizing a culture of efficiency and accountability within the Registry. He reaffirmed the management’s commitment to strengthening the department’s capacity through continuous professional development.
Professor Maishanu commended the Registry Department for taking the initiative to organize the roundtable, describing the Registry as “the administrative engine room” of the University and a key link between policy formulation and execution.
Commenting on the theme, Maishanu noted that On Time emphasizes efficiency and promptness, treating deadlines as non-negotiable commitments, while On Track refers to focus, compliance, and strategic alignment with the University’s goals.
He further explained that in any complex institution, particularly a university, the rhythm of administrative work determines the pace of academic success. “If administrative machinery falters, everything slows down, including personnel matters and strategic implementation,” he added.
The roundtable concluded with a shared commitment among registry staff to uphold the values of punctuality, discipline, and professionalism as part of the University’s drive for excellence.
