Postgraduate students and researchers at the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), have been urged to engage in impactful and ethical research that enhances the university’s global visibility and academic reputation.
The charge was delivered by the Director of the Directorate for Research, Innovation and Development (DRID), Professor Chiemela Enyinnaya Chinma, on October 8, 2025, during the second day of a workshop on Research Proposal Writing and Publication in High-Impact Journals held at the university’s main campus.
In his presentation, the Deputy Director of DRID, Professor Lanre Olatomiwa, underscored that research is incomplete without publication. He advised scholars to target reputable journals indexed in Scopus and ISI and to utilise tools such as Scimago for selecting suitable publication outlets.
Also speaking, Professor Jimoh Oladejo Tijani highlighted the importance of structured and plagiarism-free writing, urging participants to select journals that align with their research scope. He encouraged students to view peer review feedback as an opportunity for growth rather than criticism.
On the ethical use of technology, Professor Evans Egwim discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with using generative AI in academic writing. He stressed the importance of maintaining originality, ensuring data integrity, and upholding responsible authorship standards.
In the concluding session, Professor Abdulkareem Ambali Saka offered practical insights on responding to reviewers’ comments and preparing comprehensive submission packages. He noted that well-reasoned and professional responses often influence acceptance decisions positively.
The workshop concluded with a unified message to participants: publish early, collaborate widely, embrace innovation responsibly, and persist in scholarly excellence.
