The Chancellor of the University of Jos and Emir of Zazzau, His Highness Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli (CFR), has expressed strong confidence in the quality of graduates produced by the University, describing them as well-grounded and impactful contributors to national and global development.
The Emir made the remarks while receiving a delegation from the University of Jos, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Grace Folashade Bent (CON), during a courtesy visit to his palace in Zaria. The delegation included the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya, principal officers, and members of the Governing Council.
Welcoming the team, the Emir expressed delight at the visit, noting his long-standing relationship with the institution. He praised Senator Bent’s leadership and commended her efforts since assuming office, particularly her role in fostering cooperation within the University and providing strategic direction for its progress.
Mallam Bamalli highlighted the University’s reputation as one of the foremost institutions in Northern Nigeria, emphasizing that its graduates consistently demonstrate academic excellence and character. “When you engage them, you can tell that they went to school,” he said.
The Chancellor also approved the proposed date for the University’s Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for December 2025, and pledged to personally attend the event. He expressed gratitude to God for his reign and prayed for continued wisdom and strength to serve the Zazzau Emirate, the University of Jos, and Nigeria.
In her remarks, Senator Bent thanked the Emir for his fatherly support and continued interest in the University’s growth. She briefed him on upcoming key events, including the hosting of the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) competition, the University’s 50th Anniversary celebration, and the Convocation Ceremony.
“The University’s management has been working harmoniously to ensure the success of these landmark events,” she said, assuring that preparations are in full gear.
Senator Bent, who described the Zazzau Emirate as “home,” apologized for the delay in paying the courtesy visit and noted that it was also meant to felicitate with the Emir on the fifth anniversary of his ascension to the throne.
Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Professor Tanko Ishaya said the visit was both to congratulate the Emir and formally present the Pro-Chancellor to him. He reaffirmed the University’s respect and appreciation for the Chancellor’s continued guidance and support.
The visit ended with an interactive session during which the University’s Information and Publications Division conducted an exclusive interview with the Emir on the institution’s contributions to higher education and national development as it marks its 50th anniversary.
