The Kano State Commissioner for Education, Gwani Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, has underscored the importance of effective school leadership in achieving quality learning outcomes across the state’s schools.
He made this known during a two-day dissemination workshop on Leading Learning for Gender Equality in Education, organized by the British Council for education stakeholders from Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Dr. Makoda emphasized that school leaders play a crucial role in driving academic excellence and must provide consistent instructional guidance and mentorship to teachers.
“School leadership must be deliberate in assigning tasks and monitoring lessons with a view to identifying gaps that require teacher training and professional development,” he said.
The Commissioner further highlighted the need for motivation and mentorship within schools, noting that effective leadership and teacher welfare are key to sustaining educational progress.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to continuous teacher training at both the basic and secondary school levels, as well as the prompt payment of teachers’ salaries.
“The state government ensures that teachers’ salaries are paid promptly by the 25th of every month,” he stated, adding that such measures are part of the administration’s effort to enhance the quality of education in Kano.
Dr. Makoda commended the British Council for organizing the workshop and urged school leaders and teachers across the state to reciprocate government support by remaining committed to improving teaching and learning outcomes.
