The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) will on Friday, November 14, 2025, commence its 36th Convocation Ceremony, with a total of 2,747 students graduating across various disciplines. Out of this number, 240 students will be awarded First Class degrees, reflecting the institution’s continued commitment to academic excellence.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing on Friday, November 7, 2025, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, revealed that 1,479 students will graduate with Second Class Upper, 912 with Second Class Lower, and 116 with Third Class degrees. She announced Akindunbi Aduragbemi Isaac of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as the Best Graduating Student, having achieved an impressive CGPA of 4.98 out of 5.0, and will deliver the valedictory speech on behalf of his cohort.
Professor Oladiji further disclosed that 867 graduands will be awarded higher degrees during the ceremony scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025. These include 86 Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD), 627 Master of Technology (MTech) degrees, and 154 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. She noted that the university’s postgraduate output demonstrates FUTA’s growing influence in research and innovation across multiple fields.
The Convocation Lecture, titled “Strategies and Tactics for Solving Skills Challenges in Nigeria: The Roles of Government, Institutions and the Youth,” will be delivered by Prince Adetokunbo Kayode (SAN), former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Labour. The lecture is expected to set the tone for discussions around youth empowerment and national skill development.
Speaking under the theme “FUTA at the Next Level,” Professor Oladiji highlighted the remarkable transformation of the institution over the past three years, emphasizing strides made in academic excellence, financial stability, global competitiveness, and inclusive growth. “FUTA has been successfully repositioned for a sustainable future — one that empowers staff, inspires students, strengthens communities, and positions Nigeria on the global map of innovation and research,” she said.
She noted that FUTA has made significant progress in strengthening its global partnerships and research collaborations with universities in Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany. These efforts, according to her, have enhanced faculty expertise and fostered the cross-border exchange of ideas that align with global academic standards.
Professor Oladiji also announced FUTA’s research collaboration with Green Energy International Limited and Lekoil Joint Venture (JV), under the auspices of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB). The five-year project focuses on advancing hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in the Otakikpo Field, Niger Delta, with FUTA staff serving as lead researchers.
In her remarks, the Vice Chancellor expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Visitor to the university, for his administration’s support through the approval of a Teaching Hospital for FUTA and a ₦1 billion Federal Government special intervention fund for agricultural commercial farming. She also lauded the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for providing financial assistance to indigent students, which she said has improved access to education.
Professor Oladiji further commended FUTA’s governing council, led by Distinguished Senator Nora Daduut, alongside the academic and non-academic staff, alumni, and students for their cooperation and contributions to the university’s progress. She described FUTA’s atmosphere as one of “peace, collaboration, and innovation,” adding that such unity has allowed the university to thrive academically and administratively.
She concluded by affirming that FUTA has become a key player in the global academic community, known for cutting-edge research and product development tailored to address societal challenges. “FUTA is living up to its reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading citadels of excellence and a destination of choice for innovative learning and research. We invite all to join us as we celebrate excellence at our 36th Convocation Ceremony,” she said.
The weeklong convocation, according to the management, will feature a series of events, including the convocation lecture, award ceremonies, and recognition of outstanding academic and research achievements.
