The Federal Government has expanded its international collaboration on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as the Minister of Education, Chief (Dr.) Maruf Tunji Alausa (FAMedS), CON, paid an official visit to the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) in Qatar.
The Minister was received by the President of UDST, Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, alongside senior officials of the institution. The visit forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to modernize Nigeria’s TVET system in line with global standards.
During a tour of the University’s Certificate School, a globally recognized hub for competency-based technical training, Chief (Dr.) Alausa commended UDST’s model of practical instruction, industry-aligned curricula and internationally accredited programmes. He noted that these elements reflect the core priorities of Nigeria’s TVET reform agenda.
Nigeria, UDST to Expand Technical Workforce Training
The Minister announced new areas of collaboration, including enhanced faculty exchange and train-the-trainer programmes that will provide Nigerian instructors with advanced skills in welding, plumbing, HVAC, electrical installation and solar photovoltaic technologies.
According to him, the initiative will help upgrade Nigeria’s teaching workforce, strengthen national TVET institutions and align training standards with global benchmarks.
Quality Assurance and Certification Reform
Chief (Dr.) Alausa further revealed that UDST will support Nigeria in developing a comprehensive quality assurance framework to ensure that certificates, diplomas and degrees issued by technical institutions in the country meet internationally recognized certification standards. This, he said, would improve global acceptance of Nigerian technical qualifications and enhance opportunities for graduates across Europe and North America.
Boost for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Nigeria will also partner with UDST’s innovation, entrepreneurship and incubation centres to equip young Nigerians with enterprise development skills, innovation training and incubation support.
The Minister said the partnership aligns with the Federal Government’s broader objective of creating a more skilled, employable and globally competitive workforce.
