The Sokoto State Government has constructed a series of pedestrian bridges near schools situated along major roadside corridors as part of ongoing efforts to improve student safety and strengthen the state’s education infrastructure.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, PhD, approved the projects in response to long-standing appeals from pupils in primary and junior secondary schools who had repeatedly expressed concerns about the risks associated with crossing busy highways on their way to and from school.
According to the government, the bridges are designed to reduce road-related hazards and give parents greater confidence in allowing their children to attend school daily without fear of accidents.
Stakeholders say the intervention will not only improve safety but also encourage school attendance, particularly in communities where traffic congestion and speeding vehicles have historically discouraged learners from travelling to school independently.
The initiative is part of the administration’s broader commitment to providing a safer and more enabling learning environment across Sokoto State.
