The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the Federal College of Education (FCE), Yola, to offer degree programmes under the dual mandate arrangement, allowing the institution to run full degree courses independently.
The Provost of the college, Dr Mohammed Dagereji, disclosed this during a news conference in Yola on Wednesday. He said FCE Yola is among 15 federal colleges of education approved by the Federal Government to run degree programmes without affiliation to any university.
According to him, the NUC has approved 38 degree programmes for the college, out of which 14 will commence in the first phase. He added that the 2026/2027 academic session will mark the first admission cycle in which the college will offer degree programmes independently.
Dr Dagereji noted that the college had previously offered degree programmes since 2014 through an affiliation with the University of Maiduguri.
He appealed to the Federal Government to harmonise the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and degree programmes to enable students to run both as a continuous academic pathway.
The provost also confirmed that the college’s degree programmes have been listed on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal. He urged prospective candidates to apply and advised those seeking to transfer to the college to visit the institution’s website for further information.
He stressed that applicants must select only from the 14 NUC-approved degree programmes when making or changing their choices at JAMB-accredited centres.
“Applications outside these listed programmes will not be considered at this stage,” Dagereji said.
