A group of final-year master’s students from the School of Media and Communication (SMC), Pan-Atlantic University (PAU), have launched an inclusive digital safety initiative aimed at improving cybersecurity awareness among hearing-impaired women.
The project, known as the Click Wise Initiative, introduces a video-based cybersecurity toolkit designed in accessible formats to help hearing-impaired women understand and respond to common online threats such as phishing, cyberbullying, identity theft and online fraud.
The initiative was officially launched on December 10, 2025, in response to the rising incidence of cybercrime in Nigeria and the limited availability of cybersecurity resources tailored to persons living with disabilities.
The seven-member team behind the project comprises Benedict Oghenede (project lead), Ayomide Oladipo, Joanne Davies, Stephany Oribabor, Joshua Mbak, Uyime Itsueli and Dorcas Damson Bello.
Speaking on the motivation for the project, team member Uyime Itsueli said the initiative was driven by the need to make cybersecurity education more inclusive.
“The digital space should be safe for everyone, yet many cybersecurity resources are not designed for people with disabilities,” Itsueli said. “This project seeks to bridge that gap by providing practical cybersecurity knowledge in formats that the hearing-impaired community can easily engage with.”
Also speaking, Dorcas Damson Bello, the public relations officer of the Click Wise Initiative, emphasised the importance of collaboration in strengthening digital safety.
“This video toolkit is only the beginning,” Bello said. “We call on government agencies, technology companies, non-governmental organisations and educators to work with us to build a safer and more inclusive digital environment.”
