The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, CFS, has expressed gratitude to the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, for approving the visit of the Commission to the University for resource verification of three newly introduced programmes. Prof. Iwe stated this while receiving three teams of NUC officials who paid him a courtesy call on Wednesday, January 27, 2026, in the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room.
“We feel a sense of achievement with the visit of NUC to verify our new programmes, and we are grateful to the ES of NUC for approving the visit,” Prof. Iwe said. He expressed confidence that the teams would do their jobs and report their findings to NUC, and the University would eventually receive a positive result from NUC.
The newly introduced programmes undergoing resource verification are B.Eng. Food Engineering, B.Eng. Mechatronics Engineering, and BSc. Industrial Chemistry. The Resource Verification Teams were led by esteemed academics: Prof. Abdulkadir Baba Hassan from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria for B.Eng. Mechatronics Engineering, Prof. Akens Hamilton Amachree from Federal University, Otuke, for BSc. Industrial Chemistry, and Prof. Samaila James from Federal University of Technology, Minna, for B.Eng. Food Engineering.
Prof. Iwe assured the NUC teams of the University’s continued commitment to meeting and sustaining required standards for quality delivery of academic programmes. He emphasized the University’s dedication to excellence, stating that MOUAU is poised to maintain its reputation as a leading institution in Nigeria.
The courtesy call was attended by Principal Officers of the University, the Dean of College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, the Dean of College of Physical and Applied Sciences, Heads of Departments of the new programmes, and Professors from the Colleges.
The visit is a significant milestone in the University’s efforts to establish itself as a centre of academic excellence. The NUC’s resource verification exercise is a rigorous process that ensures universities meet the required standards for academic programmes.
MOUAU News gathered that the University is optimistic about the outcome of the verification exercise and looks forward to NUC’s accreditation of the new programmes. The University has invested heavily in infrastructure and faculty development to ensure that the programmes meet international standards.
The NUC teams are expected to submit their reports to the Commission, which will then make a determination on the accreditation of the programmes. The University is confident that the outcome will be positive, and the programmes will be accredited.
