The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has taken a significant step towards promoting inclusive education by announcing that persons with disabilities (PWDs) will receive free application documents for the 2026/2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This initiative is a testament to JAMB’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all, regardless of physical or learning challenges.
According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the free application documents will be processed through the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) for eligible candidates with disabilities. “To support persons living with disabilities, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of persons living with disabilities,” Oloyede stated.
To qualify for this initiative, candidates must possess five O’Level credits at not more than two sittings. Beneficiaries of the scheme include, but are not limited to, persons living with Down syndrome, autism, dyslexia, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
In addition to free application documents, JAMB will also provide audiobooks to all blind candidates. These digital adaptations of conventional printed materials will be made available in popular audio formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA, ensuring compatibility with devices capable of playing audio files.
Oloyede emphasized that this initiative underscores JAMB’s resolve to remove barriers to access and ensure that candidates with disabilities are given equal opportunities to pursue their academic aspirations. “For candidates to enjoy this, such candidates must possess five O’Level credits at not more than two sittings,” he added.
The registration for UTME for the 2026/2027 academic session commenced on January 26 and will close on February 28. Eligible PWDs are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and register for the examination.
JAMB’s initiative has been welcomed by stakeholders, who see it as a significant step towards promoting inclusive education in Nigeria. By providing free application documents and audiobooks to PWDs, JAMB is helping to level the playing field and ensure that all candidates have an equal chance to succeed.
