Authorities of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, have admitted 5,141 students into various degree programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony held on February 19, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor, Bayode Isaiah Popoola, congratulated the new students on their success in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and their admission into the institution. He described their achievement as proof that “education is not a scam.”
Prof. Popoola emphasised the transformative power of education, noting that it empowers individuals to shape their futures while driving socio-economic growth, innovation, and national development. He reminded the matriculants that they are the second set of students admitted following the institution’s elevation from a College of Education to a full-fledged university, describing their admission as historic.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the students to view their admission as the beginning of an exciting journey marked by academic pursuit, personal growth, and leadership development. He stressed the need for discipline and responsibility, encouraging them to adhere strictly to the university’s rules and regulations.
Warning against social vices, Prof. Popoola cautioned students to avoid cultism, drug abuse, indecent dressing, fighting, bullying, and wilful destruction of university property. He maintained that any student found violating institutional regulations would face appropriate sanctions.
On the significance of the matriculation oath, he described it as a legal and moral bond between the students and the university. “The matriculation oath is your solemn promise to be of good behaviour and worthy ambassadors of your parents and this University,” he stated, urging them to take the pledge seriously.
The ceremony, held at the Prof. Babatunde Ipaye Lecture Theatre, featured the administration of the oath of allegiance by the Registrar, Olufisayo Fakorede, represented by Mrs. Adeyinka Tugbiyele.
Other dignitaries present included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Ireti Folasade Alao; the Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin; Deans and Directors; Heads of Departments; as well as representatives of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), including Ishaq Oloyede, represented by Barrister Abdulkadir Abdulhakeem.
