Two years after his tragic passing, the community of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, continues to honour the memory of Mr. Olabode Olawuyi, a dedicated Veterinary Technologist at the University’s Zoological Garden.
Mr. Olawuyi, described by colleagues and students as a pillar of the Zoological Garden, devoted over a decade of service to the care, preservation, and management of the animals under his supervision. His work went beyond routine responsibilities, as he became a mentor to students and a passionate advocate for wildlife conservation within the university community.
Known for his exceptional skill and calm disposition, he played a significant role in nurturing and maintaining the animals at the facility, contributing to practical learning experiences for students in related disciplines.
Though his life was tragically cut short in the line of duty, his legacy continues to resonate across the Zoological Garden and the wider OAU community. Staff and students alike remember his bravery, expertise, and unwavering commitment to his profession.
University members have also extended continued thoughts and prayers to his wife and children, acknowledging the enduring impact of his loss.
As the OAU community reflects on his life and service, many echo the timeless words: “To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
