The management of Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, has dismissed rumours alleging a change in its instalment tuition payment structure and claims that students were locked out of hostels over non-payment.
In a statement issued by the institution’s Corporate Affairs Directorate, the University described as fictitious a document currently in circulation suggesting alterations to the school fees payment schedule and resumption date for returning students for the Second Semester of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The false document reportedly claimed that students who failed to make full payment of their 2025/2026 academic session fees by Friday, 13 February 2026, would be required to proceed on vacation and resume on Friday, 27 February 2026. The University Management categorically refuted this claim, stating that no such directive was issued.
According to the University, the existing instalment payment structure remains unchanged: 40 per cent of fees is payable at the resumption of the first semester, 20 per cent before first semester examinations, and the remaining 40 per cent at the resumption of the second semester — not before second semester examinations as falsely alleged.
The management explained that the instalment payment regime was introduced over a decade ago to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians. It clarified that what is currently being enforced is a long-standing policy, not a newly introduced rule. The University further noted that, as a private institution, it does not receive government or external funding and relies significantly on tuition fees to fulfil its statutory obligations and provide essential services.
Commenting on the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, stated that while the University maintains clear payment guidelines, it remains responsive to individual requests for extensions from parents.
“We still oblige parents who request for extension on an individual basis,” he said, adding that the institution has put in place several measures to ease financial pressure on families.
Prof. Akindele highlighted various scholarship schemes available at the University, including awards for academic excellence, sports achievements, and outstanding performance in university debates. He also disclosed that the institution partners with philanthropists to support indigent students and offers educational grants to students whose parents are members, workers, or ministers of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
The statement was signed by Adetunji Oluwasegun Adeleye, Director, Corporate Affairs Directorate, Redeemer’s University.
