The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of candidates who participated in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing 2026 examination exercise.
The announcement has triggered widespread reactions among candidates nationwide, many of whom had been anxiously awaiting the outcome of their performance in one of Nigeria’s most competitive entrance examinations.
According to information obtained by The Nigeria Education News, candidates who sat for the Thursday session can now access their results through the Board’s designated Short Message Service (SMS) channels. This method remains the primary and most accessible means of checking results, particularly for candidates without immediate internet connectivity.
To retrieve their scores, candidates are required to send “UTMERESULT” to either 55019 or 66019, using the same phone number linked to their JAMB registration. The Board emphasises that using the registered number is mandatory for successful result retrieval and verification.
Education analysts note that the continued reliance on SMS-based result checking reflects JAMB’s effort to ensure inclusivity, given the varying levels of digital access across different parts of the country.
However, candidates have been advised to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to misinformation or fraudulent platforms claiming to provide alternative result-checking services. Officials reiterate that the SMS method and JAMB’s official portal are the only recognised channels for accessing UTME results.
The release of results is expected to set the stage for the next phase of the admission process, including the announcement of institutional cut-off marks and the commencement of post-UTME screening exercises by tertiary institutions.
For many candidates, the outcome will determine their academic trajectory, influencing decisions on course selection, institution preferences, and potential changes through JAMB’s admission processes.
