Governor Umar Namadi has said that sustained investment by the Jigawa State Government in the education sector is yielding measurable and positive results, particularly at the basic education level.
The governor made the statement while presiding over a basic education stakeholders’ roundtable meeting held on Sunday at the Government House in Dutse. The meeting was convened to review progress, challenges and opportunities in the basic education sub-sector.
The roundtable brought together officials from the Ministry of Education and its agencies, development partners, and other key stakeholders. It was coordinated by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in collaboration with the Office of the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Basic Education.
Presentations were made by government institutions, non-governmental organisations and donor partners, highlighting ongoing interventions, achievements and contributions aimed at improving access to education, quality of teaching and learning outcomes across the state.
Governor Namadi expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting, noting that the presentations clearly showed that government spending and partner support were translating into real improvements in the sector. He said the combined efforts of the state government and development partners were becoming increasingly evident in educational outcomes.
He commended the commitment of donor agencies and assured them of the government’s continued collaboration and support. According to him, the administration remains committed to creating a conducive environment that allows partners to operate effectively and contribute meaningfully to educational development.
The governor also pledged that the government would carefully review the recommendations made during the meeting with a view to integrating viable ones into the state’s education planning and policy framework.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Lawal Yunusa Danzomo, said the meeting brought together all departments and institutions involved in education data and service delivery. He stressed that improving education outcomes requires collective effort and a shared commitment to ensuring that every child in Jigawa State enrols in school, stays in school and completes their education.
Danzomo disclosed that recent assessments show significant improvements in access to education, pupil retention, transition and completion rates, as well as progress in teacher recruitment, deployment, training and performance. He attributed the gains to the political will of the governor and the enabling environment created by his administration.
Development partners and organisations present at the meeting included PLANE, AGILE, UNICEF, the Islamic Development Bank and Save the Children, among others.
