The Osun State Government has intensified efforts to reposition its technical education sector following a high-level engagement aimed at improving infrastructure and equipping technical colleges across the state. The meeting, held at the Exco Chambers, brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for upgrading facilities and enhancing vocational training capacity.
Leading the engagement, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, Chief of Staff to the state government, described the session as productive and forward-looking. He noted that discussions focused on critical areas including the renovation of existing structures, construction of new facilities, and the deployment of modern technical and vocational equipment in all government-owned technical colleges.
According to him, the initiative is part of a broader vision to transform technical education into a viable pathway for youth empowerment and economic growth. He acknowledged that the current administration inherited significant structural and operational challenges but assured that deliberate steps are being taken to address them comprehensively.
Hon. Igbalaye emphasised the government’s resolve to upgrade technical colleges into modern institutions that can meet current industry standards. He explained that the integration of state-of-the-art equipment will not only improve teaching and learning but also enhance the employability of graduates in a rapidly evolving labour market.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, he stated that education remains central to sustainable development in Osun State. He credited Governor Ademola Adeleke for prioritising reforms in the education sector, particularly in technical and vocational training, as part of efforts to reduce unemployment and stimulate local economic development.
The meeting also underscored the importance of collaboration between government agencies and private sector partners. Representatives of Skill G Nigeria Limited participated in the discussions, contributing insights on the deployment of modern training tools and the implementation of best practices in technical education.
Also present at the meeting were top government officials, including the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Moruf Adeleke; the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Ogungbile Olusola; the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Eluwole; and the Special Adviser on Technical and Vocational Studies, Hon. Dapo Ademola-Adesina.
