The Federal Polytechnic Ayede has formally admitted 705 students into its academic community during its fourth matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking another milestone in the institution’s gradual growth and development.
The ceremony, held at the institution’s temporary site in Iresa-Pupa, was described by the Acting Rector, Dr. Azeez Ojo, as a defining moment for both the students and the polytechnic. He noted that matriculation represents not just formal admission, but a commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and character development.
Addressing the newly admitted students, Dr. Ojo urged them to take advantage of emerging opportunities in Nigeria’s technical and vocational education sector, particularly under the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative. He emphasized the need for students to acquire practical skills that would position them as job creators rather than job seekers.
The Rector also warned against social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, and drug abuse, stressing that such behaviours could derail students’ academic and professional futures. He assured parents and guardians that the institution remains committed to guiding students responsibly throughout their academic journey.
In a notable development, the institution commended the Federal Government for approving a 20-kilometre road project aimed at improving access to its permanent site. According to the Rector, the road will connect Idi Araba Junction to the Ayede campus in Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area and extend to Oolo community in Oriire Local Government Area, a move expected to accelerate relocation and infrastructural expansion.
Representing the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, Prof. Idris Bugaje, the South-West Zonal Director, Ayo Aroge, lauded the institution’s leadership and encouraged students to embrace skill-based education as a pathway to national development and economic sustainability.
Dr. Ojo also paid tribute to the pioneer Rector, Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, acknowledging his foundational role in establishing the institution and setting it on a path of growth. He noted that the efforts of the pioneer leadership have created a solid base for ongoing academic and infrastructural development.
The Nigeria Education News gathered that the polytechnic is actively seeking partnerships with corporate organisations, alumni, and stakeholders to strengthen its capacity and achieve long-term sustainability. The Rector stressed that collective support remains crucial to building a reputable and competitive technical institution.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Aresa-Pupa of Iresa-Pupa, Oba Moses Olayiwola, as well as principal officers of the institution, deans, directors, staff, and students.
The matriculation ceremony not only marked the beginning of the students’ academic journey but also highlighted the institution’s broader ambitions to expand its infrastructure, improve accessibility, and strengthen its role in Nigeria’s technical education landscape.
