Popular Nigerian Afrobeats star, Davido, has disclosed plans to return to the classroom as he prepares to pursue a master’s degree in Political Science at a university in the United Kingdom next year.
The award-winning singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the revelation during a recent livestream that gained attention across social media platforms on Wednesday, where he spoke about his academic ambitions beyond music and entertainment.
According to the singer, the decision reflects his growing interest in governance, leadership, and political affairs, areas he has publicly engaged with over the years, especially during major political developments in Nigeria.
“I want to do my Master’s next year in the UK, a one-year course in political science. I already have my B.Sc,” Davido stated during the livestream.
The singer also clarified speculation suggesting that the postgraduate programme would take place at Adeleke University, an institution owned by his family.
When asked whether he intended to study at Adeleke University, Davido responded briefly, saying, “No.”
The announcement has since generated reactions among fans and followers, many of whom praised the singer for prioritising education despite his global success in the entertainment industry.
Davido is widely known not only for his music career but also for his active interest in political and social conversations. During election periods in Nigeria, he has frequently voiced support for democratic participation and political engagement, particularly in Osun State where his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, serves as governor.
The singer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Babcock University in 2015 after initially studying Business Administration at Oakwood University in the United States before returning to Nigeria to continue his academic journey.
Observers say Davido’s decision to further his studies may inspire many young Nigerians, especially students and entertainers, to combine professional success with academic advancement.
In recent years, several Nigerian celebrities have returned to higher institutions to pursue postgraduate studies, reflecting a growing recognition of the importance of education and intellectual development beyond fame and career achievements.
For many fans, Davido’s latest revelation presents another dimension of the singer’s personality, showing his willingness to explore public affairs and political studies alongside his thriving music career.
The development also comes at a time when conversations around youth participation in governance, policy-making, and leadership continue to gain momentum across Nigeria.
