Lagos State University has added another major achievement to its growing list of national recognitions after receiving a ₦25 million performance award from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board during the 2026 JAMB Policy Meeting held in Abuja.
The university emerged as the Second Runner-Up Institution in the National Tertiary Admissions’ Performance-Merit Award (NATAP-M Awards), securing a total of three points across the five assessment indicators used for the Mega Award category in the sixth edition of the exercise for the 2025 admission cycle.
The prestigious award was presented to the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, by the JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, in recognition of the university’s outstanding performance in Nigeria’s tertiary admission process.
The latest recognition comes shortly after LASU emerged as the most sought-after university in Nigeria for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) admission cycle, recording an impressive 84,326 candidates who selected the institution as their first-choice university.
University authorities described the double achievement as evidence of the institution’s rising national reputation and sustained commitment to academic excellence, innovation, transparency, and student-focused administration.
Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the award reflects the dedication of the university management, staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders toward building a globally competitive institution capable of attracting quality students from across the country.
The NATAP-M Awards were introduced by JAMB to encourage healthy competition among tertiary institutions and reward excellence, transparency, and efficiency in the admission process across Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
LASU’s consistent rise in national rankings and growing popularity among admission seekers have further positioned the institution as one of the leading state universities in Nigeria.
The university community has continued to celebrate the achievement, describing it as another milestone in LASU’s transformation journey and a strong validation of ongoing reforms within the institution.
With the latest award and its status as Nigeria’s most subscribed university, LASU continues to strengthen its reputation as a major force in the country’s higher education sector.
