A sense of anxiety has gripped the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife community after a 200-level Economics student, Fuad Olamiposi Oladipupo, was reported missing under unclear circumstances following conflicting phone location traces and days of silence.
Fuad was last physically seen on Monday, May 18, 2026, when he left home without his personal phone. Later that evening, at about 9:00 pm, he reportedly contacted his mother to confirm that he had arrived in Ile-Ife safely, a call that initially reassured the family.
However, the situation took a troubling turn the following day when his mother attempted to reach him through the same phone number he had used. According to family accounts, the individual who answered the call claimed the phone was not in Ile-Ife but had been traced to Oshodi area of Lagos State, raising confusion over his actual whereabouts.
Since that moment, no further communication has been received from Fuad, and efforts by his family to reach him have been unsuccessful. He has neither been seen in his university environment nor confirmed to be in any known location including Ibadan, where he was also suspected to have travelled through.
The disappearance has sparked growing concern among family members, friends, and acquaintances, especially given the contradictory information surrounding his last known communication and the sudden loss of contact.
Speaking through a family source, his mother has appealed to members of the public, students, and security agencies to assist with any useful information that could lead to his safe return.
Fuad, described by peers as calm and academically focused, is a registered student in the Department of Economics at OAU.
