The Lagos State Government has commenced a week-long digital skills programme aimed at helping young people in the Badagry and Ikorodu divisions develop practical technology and entrepreneurial skills.
The Eko Digital Training initiative, organised by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, began on September 7 and will run until September 11, 2026, as part of efforts to improve technology literacy, support educational development and prepare youths for economic opportunities.
Training sessions are taking place at the Iba ICT Centre in Iba Town, Badagry Division, and the Homat School of Basic Studies CBT Centre in Igbogbo, Ikorodu Division.
Participants are being introduced to artificial intelligence, basic information technology and practical computing, alongside emotional intelligence training designed to strengthen leadership and career development skills.
Speaking during a briefing with facilitators, coordinators and participants at his Ikeja office, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, said the programme was designed to equip young people with skills relevant to the changing demands of the workplace.
“The targeted coursework provides youth with the competitive edge needed to thrive in fast-evolving global markets,” Sule said.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Adeniran Kasali, described digital education as an important tool for tackling youth unemployment and supporting sustainable economic growth.
Kasali encouraged eligible youths in Badagry and Ikorodu to participate in the free programme, saying the skills acquired could improve their career opportunities and ability to compete in an increasingly digital economy.
