The ADELU-led administration of the University of Ilorin Students’ Union has organised a leadership and empowerment summit aimed at equipping students with digital skills, entrepreneurial knowledge, and leadership capacity in preparation for opportunities within the evolving global economy.
The summit, held at the University of Ilorin, attracted students across different faculties and departments and featured discussions centered on innovation, youth leadership, self-development, and career growth.
As part of the empowerment initiative introduced during the programme, students were offered free professional training in high-demand digital fields including Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence Automation, Web Development, and other technology-driven skills considered relevant in today’s digital economy.
Organisers said the initiative was designed to expose students to practical opportunities beyond the classroom and position them for competitiveness in both local and global labour markets.
Some participants at the summit were also awarded scholarships, while attendees received free 12-in-1 notebooks, a development that generated reactions among students on social media platforms.

Speaking at the event, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Ondo State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, urged young people to transform innovative ideas into impactful ventures capable of driving national development.
The programme also featured the recognition of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bellagio Airlines, Dr. Oludare Akande, OON, who was honoured with a special award during the event.
Representatives of the University management, including Deputy Vice-Chancellors representing the Vice-Chancellor, attended the summit alongside other dignitaries and stakeholders.
In a cameo appearance, the Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Mrs. Rinsola Abiola, addressed participants on leadership, citizenship, and youth development.
One of the major highlights of the summit was the presentation of a brand-new laptop to a female student living with disability to support her academic and entrepreneurial pursuits. The gesture, according to organisers, reflected the administration’s commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities for students.
Observers noted that the summit represented more than a routine campus gathering, describing it as a platform for mentorship, networking, and capacity building at a time when digital competence is increasingly shaping employability and innovation globally.
The Students’ Union administration stated that the initiative formed part of its broader agenda of promoting impactful representation, student empowerment, and sustainable development through programmes tailored toward preparing students for future challenges and opportunities.
