The Lagos State Government, in partnership with Lions International District 404B2 Nigeria, has commissioned a Skills Development Centre at Dairy Farm Secondary School, Agege, to equip students with vocational and entrepreneurial skills for self-reliance.
The facility, officially inaugurated recently, is expected to strengthen practical learning among students and complement the state’s drive to prepare young people for opportunities beyond the classroom.
The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, Dr. Idowu Oyetola, who represented the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, at the event, described the project as a significant contribution to youth empowerment and education.
Delivering the Commissioner’s goodwill message, Oyetola commended Lions International District 404B2 Nigeria for investing in education and reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to providing quality education while equipping learners with practical skills for lifelong success.
She said the Skills Development Centre would provide students with opportunities to acquire vocational and entrepreneurial competencies needed to become productive and self-reliant.
Oyetola urged students to maximise the opportunities offered by the facility by embracing skills acquisition and maintaining the equipment to ensure the centre remains functional for future users.
“The sustainability of this project depends on the collective responsibility of the school community. Students must protect the facilities and make effective use of the centre to prepare themselves for the future,” she said.
She also praised Lions International District 404B2 Nigeria for supporting the education sector through initiatives that promote innovation, skills acquisition and human capital development.
According to her, such partnerships complement the state’s efforts to produce graduates who possess not only academic knowledge but also practical skills required for entrepreneurship and the workplace.
The commissioning featured the unveiling of the Skills Development Centre, an inspection of the facility and goodwill messages from stakeholders, who described the project as a major boost to technical and vocational education in Lagos public schools.
