The Kwara State Government has commenced free online registration for the 2026 Placement Examination into public junior secondary schools, also known as the Common Entrance Examination, in a renewed effort to streamline access to public education and eliminate financial barriers for pupils across the state.
The exercise, which is being conducted through a dedicated online platform, is targeted at eligible Primary Six pupils seeking admission into public junior secondary schools for the next academic session.
According to the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, the registration process will be implemented in phases across public and private primary schools to ensure smooth coordination and effective monitoring.
In a statement issued by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Peter Amogbonjaye, registration for pupils in private primary schools is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 9, while pupils in public primary schools will begin registration on Friday, June 12.
“The registration exercise for pupils in private primary schools begins on June 9, while registration for pupils in public primary schools starts on June 12,” the statement read.
The ministry further confirmed that the registration window will close on June 22, urging school administrators and parents to comply strictly with the deadline to avoid missing the opportunity.
Officials stressed that the process is strictly school-based, meaning that pupils will be registered through their respective primary schools rather than individually.
“The registration exercise will be conducted through the pupils’ existing schools and is strictly for Primary Six pupils in approved public and private primary schools across the state,” the ministry added.
To strengthen transparency and prevent abuse of the process, the government directed all private primary schools to obtain clearance from the Quality Assurance Bureau before accessing login credentials for the registration portal.
“All private primary schools are required to obtain clearance from the Quality Assurance Bureau before they can access the portal login credentials needed for registration,” it stated.
In a strong warning against exploitation, the ministry cautioned school officials against collecting any form of payment from pupils or parents under any guise, emphasizing that the exercise is completely free.
“No principal, headteacher, or school official should collect money from pupils or parents under any guise. Any individual found extorting candidates will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the law,” the statement warned.
Education authorities also urged parents to ensure that eligible children are properly enrolled within the stipulated period, noting that the initiative is part of the government’s broader commitment to improving access to quality education and reducing dropout rates at the foundational level.
The government further encouraged stakeholders in the education sector to take full advantage of the free registration window, stressing that timely participation will ensure smooth placement processes ahead of the new academic session.
With the rollout of the online system, Kwara joins a growing number of states adopting digital platforms to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability in student placement examinations across Nigeria.
