The University of Abuja has inducted 285 postgraduate students into its Centre for Gender, Security and Youth Advancement for the 2025/2026 academic session, with the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, and the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Dr Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, among the new entrants.
Both public officials have enrolled for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Commonwealth Youth Development Studies, joining other students admitted into the Centre’s Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master’s and PhD programmes in Commonwealth Youth Development Studies, Gender Studies and Social Work.
Addressing the newly admitted students during the induction ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, urged them to uphold the values of honesty, discipline and academic excellence throughout their studies.
He reminded the students that the matriculation oath was a commitment to integrity, warning that the University would not tolerate any form of academic misconduct.
Professor Fawehinmi described integrity as the foundation of quality postgraduate education and research, encouraging the students to remain focused as they contribute to knowledge in areas such as gender, youth development, security and social welfare.
The induction officially marked the commencement of academic activities for the 2025/2026 postgraduate cohort at the Centre for Gender, Security and Youth Advancement, a specialised academic unit established to promote research, policy development and capacity building in gender, youth and social development.
