Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated 140,000 illustrated children’s storybooks to the Federal Ministry of Education for distribution to public school libraries across the country, in a move aimed at strengthening reading culture among young learners.
The donation comprises seven children’s book titles, including More Than A Mother, Educating Laila and Mark’s Pressure. The books are designed for primary and lower secondary school pupils and explore themes centred on values, personal growth, education and everyday experiences.
Receiving the donation, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, described the initiative as a significant contribution to improving literacy and encouraging a lifelong reading culture among Nigerian children.

He said providing quality reading materials in schools would not only support literacy development but also expose pupils to stories and lessons capable of shaping their character and aspirations.
Alausa commended the First Lady for what he described as her continued commitment to education and child development, noting that the books would enrich learning resources available in public school libraries nationwide.
The Federal Ministry of Education has yet to announce when distribution of the books will begin or how they will be allocated across states and public schools.
