The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has applauded the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government and security agencies for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after 56 days in captivity.
In a statement issued by the university, LAUTECH described the rescue as a major relief for the victims’ families, the education community and the people of Oyo State, noting that the operation has renewed hope that coordinated security efforts can effectively address threats to schools and learning environments.
The institution commended President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde and the various security agencies involved in the operation for their commitment to ensuring the safe return of the schoolchildren and teachers. It also praised the courage, professionalism and collaboration demonstrated throughout the intelligence-led mission that culminated in the victims’ release.
While celebrating the successful rescue, the university expressed sympathy for the victims over the physical and emotional trauma they endured during their prolonged captivity. It equally extended condolences to the family of the late teacher, Michael Oyedokun, who was killed during the period of the abduction, describing his death as a painful reminder of the devastating consequences of insecurity on the education sector.
LAUTECH further urged governments and security authorities to sustain efforts aimed at protecting schools, teachers and learners across the country. Within its message, the university stressed that educational institutions should remain safe spaces where children can learn without fear, adding that stronger security measures are essential to preventing similar incidents in the future.
The university also called for continued support for the rescued pupils and teachers as they recover from the psychological effects of their experience. It noted that counselling, medical care and other forms of rehabilitation would play an important role in helping the victims reintegrate into their schools and communities.
Reaffirming its commitment to quality education and the welfare of learners, LAUTECH said the successful rescue serves as a reminder that safeguarding students and education workers must remain a national priority. The institution expressed hope that the operation would strengthen public confidence in ongoing efforts to secure schools and ensure that no child is denied access to education because of insecurity.
